Women from every corner of the globe, custodians of stories, traditions and visions of the future, this is an appeal for you!
We invite you to join in an unprecedented choral story.
The project “Female Identity in the World” calls for your testimonies through the timeless charm of the postcard and the official voice of the stamp, to weave together a plot that crosses centuries and continents.
A Journey through History, Culture and Customs
Participating means transforming a simple card into a pulsating historical document. Vintage postcards remind us that, before globalization, the concept of beauty and social role was deeply rooted in the different cultures of the world. From the Art Nouveau portraits of the early twentieth century, which showed elegant and casual women in public spaces, to the representations of typical costumes, passing through the iconographic representations of the feminine, each image is a fragment of our evolution.
We want this project to be an educational and narrative tool that celebrates:
- The diversity of aesthetic canons and local traditions, captured before mass communication made everything uniform.
- The social evolution of women, from an idealized figure to a protagonist of science, the arts and culture.
- The path towards rights, documenting fundamental stages such as the conquest of universal suffrage.
The Stamp: the official voice of a people
Your postcard must be embellished with a thematic philatelic postage. The stamp is not just a value card; It is the institutional narrative of a nation, a self-congratulatory tool that formalizes the importance of women in history.
By sending postage celebrating, for example, the “Excellence of Knowledge” — as in the case of Italy the scientists Maria Gaetana Agnesi and Eva Mameli Calvino or the poet Ada Blacks — you will help to show how the State itself recognizes and values the female genius. Each stamp will thus become a chapter of a book in which all nations offer knowledge on the condition of women.
How to participate
We invite you to send original postcards (preferably in the historical 14×9 cm format) that represent the women of your land, in their typical clothes or in their characteristic activities.
Any depiction of the feminine in any historical era and even in the present is valid. Current, historical, artistic depictions, portraiture, photographic images, etc. are appreciated. There are no limits to the enhancement of the feminine! The material will be exhibited in an exhibition to be held between September and October 2026 during the “Le Parole di Lavinia” Women’s Literary Festival and Award.
Any sections of the exhibition will be organized according to the material that arrives. There are no time or quantity limits for sending postcards with philatelic postage, as the project will be repeated and expanded annually.
Make sure that the postage is consistent with the theme of the project (distinguished women, women’s rights, traditional costumes, etc.) and send your postcards to:
Centro Studi Femininum Ingenium – Viale Odisseo, 23 – 00071 Pomezia (Rome) – Italy
Each postcard received will become part of an important collection dedicated to the study of women’s history, contributing to an exhibition that will not only be a review of images, but a profound analysis of female identity and its impact on world history.
Become protagonists of this collective memory. Your story is worth travelling!
